A Rich Life to Celebrate!

This book is not just about the finished product. Hours and hours of recorded interview in the narrator’s home allowed him to tell and think about the treasured stories of his life. Often he started a session doubtful of what he could remember and a few times even reluctant to sit down. He’s a man of action and projects. Of doing. But sitting together, the recorder on, I’d ask a question, and he’d start in on a story. Building his first boat from a kit in high school. “Majoring” in playing pool in college before getting serious. Deciding on dental school. Buying his first Porsche from the factory in Germany while stationed in France in the Dental Corps. Fishing with good friend on the Klamath with the salmon running. His eyes would sparkle with laugh, the colors of those moments becoming more and more vivid as I listened.

So, the experience of sharing the stories had great value for this author. It was therapeutic.

The final product is also a treasure. In this book full of photos and documents and stories, his children and grandchildren can learn how Gramps’ beliefs and values were formed in childhood, how his interests and priorities evolved as he grew into adulthood. How he found love. How much he loves them!

Congratulations on a beautiful book, Jim!
